Abstract: The resonance wave functions of open microwave cavities with
curved border of different shape and their conductance are
calculated at energies with one, two and three open channels in
each lead. Whispering gallery modes are shown to appear. They are
localized along the convex border and make a contribution to the
conductance which is enlarged considerably. This effect can be
understood by semiclassical considerations when basic properties
of whispering gallery modes are taken into account.
