Jan Šulc at CTU in Prague

Starting with master's thesis (defended in 1998) and continuing through Ph.D. studies, I'am working in a laser laboratory at CTU in Prague on a variety of solid-state laser-based projects, which encompassed laser development, testing, modeling, and applications. Since 2002, I have been also involved in educating students in laser engineering and theory at FNSPE.

Teaching & Supervision

I am a supervisor of undergraduate as well as Ph.D. students (3 currently supervised PhD. students; 2 students have already successfully defended PhD. thesis; 2 currently supervised master students; 5 students have defended master's thesis; 8 students have defended bachelor thesis). I was also co-advisor of several bachelor, diploma and doctoral students. I have rich experience as reviewer of Bc. and M.Sc. theses.

I also deliver lectures to students at the bachelor's level (courses Introduction to Laser Technology, Laser Technology), master's level (courses Laser Physics, Quantum Generators of Optical Radiation, Quantum Laboratory), and doctoral level (courses Laser Theory, Laser Generator Physics).

Main Research Interest

The main content of his scientific work in the last five years was research of new mid-infrared laser active media (Tm, Ho, or Er-doped GGAG crystals; chalcogenide materials doped with Cr2+ and Fe2+ ions; lanthanide-doped low-phonon energy halogenoide and sulphide materials), lasers using Er3+ ions for 3 mradiation generation, and compact and microchip lasers (alexandrite, Pr:YAP, Ho:YAP, Tm:YAP, Yb:YAG/V:YAG, Nd:YAG/V:YAG).
