Heat

requirements for exam (2014-2015)
last example sheet (2014-2015)
Method of path integrals
in quantum physics: The lecture covers the following topics;
Evolution kernel, Trotter product formula and configuration-space path
integral, elementary properties of path integrals and simple solutions
(e.g., free particle, harmonic oscillator, Bohm-Aharonov effect),
semiclassical time-evolution amplitude (WKB approximation) and its
application to the anharmonic oscillator, variational perturbation
theory and its application to the double well potential, Green
functions and the Feynman-Kac formula, phase-space path integrals,
coherent state representation and Klauder's path integral, Wick
rotation and Euclidean path integrals, simple applications in
statistical physics.
Applications of
functional integrals:
The lecture provides an introduction into
quantum field theory. The actual treatment is provided by means of
functional integrals. Central part of the lecture revolves around
particle physics. In this connection, the quantization of simple
systems (scalar fields, fermionic fields and gauge fields) is outlined
and the corresponding perturbation treatment of Green's function is
discussed via Feynman integrals. Essential part of the lecture consists
of the problem solving. Handouts are provided.
I. example sheet (2012-2013)
Supersymmetric quantum
mechanics:
The lecture covers the following topics;
General properties of Schrödinger equation in one dimension (bound
states, continuum states and scattering), Supersymmetric (SUSY)
harmonic oscillator, factorization and the hierarchy of Hamiltonians,
shape invariance and solvable potentials, charged particles in external
fields and SUSY, isospectral Hamiltonians, some perturbative methods
(SUSY WKB, SUSY delta expansion and variational approach).
Elements of Quantum
Mechanics:
The lecture covers the following topics;
State description, wave function, postulates of quantum mechanics,
Born's statistical interpretation, expectation values, Schrödinger
equation, Heisenberg uncertainty principle, quantization of angular
momentum, solution of simple systems, hydrogen atom.
